Project scope:
The Little Goose Adjustable Spillway Weir is a removable assembly of fixed stoplogs, an 80 ton, 50 foot wide rolling gate crest assembly (weir) that is raised and lowered with a 100 ton capacity hoist assembly. The hoist is capable of controlling spillway flows to within 1/8” of elevation change with skew control. This is a prototype system designed by the USACE to support downstream fish passage.
Quality key points:
USACE accepted a Value Engineering Cost Proposal (VECP) from KCS to redesign the contract 100 Ton Capacity Adjustable Spillway Weir Hoist component of the project. The VECP design improved mechanical efficiencies, reduced structural loads, provided instant contract savings to the customer and was completed within the original contract completion period. Scope of design included structural, mechanical and controls.
1. Nearly 500 tons of hydraulic structures, fabricated in accordance with AWS D1.5 welding code
2. Delivery of stoplogs and rolling gate crest assembly by Barge to project site. Offloading with 550 ton crane
3. Offsite load testing of the 100 ton capacity hoist system
